Xtreme Aging, June 4, 2010

Every year the Tennessee Edenizing Foundation sponsors a non-Eden educational event free to TEAC members. On 6/4/10, Vicki Rosebrook and Hollie Hailey of the Macklin Intergenerational Institute in Findlay, Ohio, presented "Xtreme Aging" at Bordeaux Long Term Care in Nashville. The aim of this seminar is to sensitize those who care for elders to the physical and emotional challenges they face. It is highly participatory and consists of classroom time plus simulation exercises. The attached photos show attendees attempting various tasks wearing props which included finger stiffeners, foot irritators and 7 pairs of glasses which mimicked 7 visual impairments including retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. At one point a resident wandered in and was invited to join the group. Very serious information was presented in a very fun way.
